Hemorrhoids: Is Prevention Better Than Cure?
As advancements and new technologies were launched, medical professionals and experts were able to detect new illnesses that were undiagnosed before. The presence of new medical systems became helpful to the diagnosis as well as the treatment of some diseases that needed serious medical attention.
One of the diseases that were detected through the help of new technologies is the hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are the swollen detected around the anus or the lower rectum. The two types of hemorrhoids are the internal hemorrhoids and the external hemorrhoids. Based on medical studies, external hemorrhoids are more visible than internal hemorrhoids.
There are risk factors associated with the development of hemorrhoids. The common risk factor is strain caused by the elimination of stool or what people commonly know as constipation. Pregnancy also contributes to the occurrence of hemorrhoids. Aging as well as anal intercourse are proven to be risk factors to hemorrhoids.
There are different treatments recommended by medical professionals for the disease. Most of these treatments can be done at home and even without the presence of physicians. Most medical experts recommend patients with hemorrhoids to have zit bath after each bowel movement because it is capable of lessening or removing the inflamed or swollen veins.
Some dietary changes are recommended by medical professionals to the patients. The patients are suggested to have more liquid intakes and to include food that has high-content of fiber in their daily diet. Laxatives are also suggested, but patients are advised to be careful in selecting the laxatives that will be using, because some laxatives may cause infection in the anus.
As medical experts usually say, prevention is better than cure. The presence of squat toilets can be helpful in preventing the occurrence of the disease. Based on a study done by Israeli physician Berko Sikirov, squat toilets avoid the recurrence of hemorrhoids. In developing nations, it is also proven that the use of squat toilets decrease the number of patients suffering from this illness.
Kegel exercises at the pelvic floor are commonly recommended to patients who are experiencing symptoms of hemorrhoids. Changes in the patient’s diet are also advised by medical experts.
Hemorrhoids are observed to be prevalent in developing as well as in developed nations. Hence, it is suggested that patients who are experiencing symptoms of hemorrhoids even at the early stage should seek medical help. The existence of hemorrhoids may not be life-threatening, but hemorrhoids can definitely cause infections. Thus, failure to prevent or cure the disease may lead to other complications.
