Pregnancy and Hemorrhoids: Five Preventive Tips
Worried about getting hemorrhoids during pregnancy? Not sure on what to do if this happens to you?
While it’s a fact that hemorrhoids, those blood vessels that act up and get swollen in a female’s rectal area, is more of a common thing during pregnancy, some people also experience these enlarged varicose veins prior to becoming pregnant.
Thus, if you already encountered the pain or itchiness of hemorrhoids before pregnancy, there is a great chance that you will also have them when you’re carrying that baby in your womb.
Why is this so? Well, since there’s a lot of pressure that can be placed on your pelvic area while your child is happily growing inside of you, developing hemorrhoids while in the bliss of pregnancy is a possibility.
So, what can you possibly do to avoid having that hemorrhoids problem during pregnancy?
Here are some of the things you can do:
* Change your dietary habits.
As always, a healthy lifestyle with good dietary habits can help combat any type of problems before, during, or after pregnancy. So, be sure not to eat all the junk foods that you may develop a craving for while your child is in your belly.
While these things may taste good, they do not contain ample nutrients to help you while you’re carrying your child inside, and they certainly wouldn’t lessen the swelling of your hemorrhoids if they are already there.
Opting for a high fiber meal is the way to go. It will make you full, and the nutrition that comes from those foods you eat will be beneficial to your baby and your rectal area.
* Have an adequate water supply in your body.
Drink at least eight to ten glasses a day of water. This helps clean your system, and keep those varicose veins from protruding from your bottom and growing to an unfavourable size.
* Never strain when having a bowel movement.
Straining while having a bowel movement merely lessens the strength of your pelvic area – which can actually give birth to those hemorrhoids in the first place. So, try to avoid this at all times.
* Enjoy a cold and hot treatment.
Having a good ice pack ready to place on that swollen area (if you noticed that the problem has already started), and a hot tub to sink your bottom unto are good preventive actions to take. Be sure that you alternate these things in order to ward off this dilemma, or decrease the size of those (possible) pelvic veins that may give you trouble.
* Do Kegels exercises.
Kegels exercises – performed on an everyday basis - are known to increase the blood circulation and strengthen your muscles in different parts of your pelvic area (including the anus, vagina and urethra). This is a good preventive measure that can help you greatly.
Following these tips, and gathering more guidelines, can help in giving you a worry-free pregnancy devoid of hemorrhoids. Thus, it is crucial to learn these tips and apply them so you won’t have to deal with this problem while you’re pregnant.
