Hemorrhoids Treatment by Type
Hemorrhoids are nothing more than swollen veins around the anus which are usually caused by increased pressure, such as straining when constipated. Then if blood clots form in the hemorrhoids, they can become thrombosed. This can be very painful and will need treatment of some sort.
There are four basic types of hemorrhoids.
INTERNAL HEMORRHOIDS: This type doesn't usually cause pain or itch as the nerves in this part of the rectum don't feel pain and only feel pressure. Internal hemorrhoids are basically harmless and only cause irritation of they are prolapsed and protrude outside of the anus. However, if they are bleeding they could mask symptoms from other conditions that might be dangerous. Therefore internal hemorrhoids should be treated. Many people have had luck with non-traditional methods.
EXTERNAL HEMORRHOIDS: This type is usually the root cause of all the bad symptoms that people talk about when discussing hemorrhoids. The reason is that the nerves located outside the rectum experience pain so external hemorrhoids can be very irritating as burning, itching, and rubbing. If an external hemorrhoid has been cut off from its blood supply a clot can form in it and become a very painful thrombosed hemorrhoid. Because of these symptoms external hemorrhoids get the most treatment attention. Again, a change of diet, exercise and the use of non-traditional medicines can bring relief from the symptoms of external hemorrhoids.
BLEEDING HEMORRHOIDS: Bleeding hemorrhoids can happen in both internal and external hemorrhoids. Basically it is a hemorrhoid lump that has burst or ruptured causing blood to flow out from the wound. These should always be treated as you never know what the blood could mask. Other more serious conditions may be present and the hemorrhoids should be treated so they can be attended to.
THROMBOSED HEMORRHOIDS: Thrombosed hemorrhoids are basically external hemorrhoids which have worsened. External hemorrhoids can become thrombosed when blood clots develop inside the hemorrhoidal lump itself. This makes the lump extremely sensitive. Large blood clots are very painful during any activity such as a bowel movement, walking or even sitting.
But which treatment is the real question. There are so many options out there from over-the-counter drugs, to full blown surgery to some other non-traditional methods. It is these non-traditional ways of treating hemorrhoids that many people have found great relief in.
