Hemorrhoid Treatment Options
Having hemorrhoids is both painful and embarrassing. Fortunately, it is curable. Understanding what cure is best for you is to understand what type of hemorrhoids do you have. There are only two kinds: “internal hemorrhoids” and “external hemorrhoids”.
Internal hemorrhoid occurs when a painful varicose vein develops along
the anal sphincter, the small passageway of the anus.
It is usually not visible and you may feel only a slight discomfort and some pain when you are excreting hard stool. Some people with internal hemorrhoids don’t notice that they have this disease. But you may suspect that you have internal hemorrhoids if feel itching in the area.
Itching is caused by the mucus released by the varicose vein. You may also have internal hemorrhoids if you feel discomfort during and after a bowel movement. Obviously, the bigger is the bulge in the anus, the more intense is the discomfort.
The most evident symptom of this hemorrhoid is the presence of bright red blood with the stool. Once you notice this, consult a doctor immediately. Internal hemorrhoids are usually painless. When you know that you it, and then pain suddenly occurs, it means that you have what is called a “strangulated hemorrhoid”. It means that the blood supply to this vein has been cut off. In this case, you need emergency treatment.
With internal hemorrhoids, your treatment options may be an injection of an irritating medicine or a surgery treatment, or a laser treatment. When you chose injection (also called sclerotherapy), a substance is placed inside the anus. This substance irritates the passageway and causes the hemorrhoid to shrink.
Injection is best only when the hemorrhoid bulge is small. Both surgery (called hemorrhoidectomy) and laser treatment aim to remove the hemorrhoid. The laser treatment is often used with a L-Arginine, a compound that causes body cells to produce nitric acid and relaxes muscle spasms. Hemorrhoid is believed to be the result of a spasm in the anal sphincter.
Another method, called “infrared coagulation” utilizes a special device to burn the hemorrhoid. External hemorrhoids develop around the anus and it is more painful. Bleeding often occurs. When the blood forms a hard clump, it is then called thrombosed hemorrhoid. The usual treatment for this type of hemorrhoid is the use of creams.
Creams lessen the pain and itching, and reduce the swelling. In some countries, two unusual methods are sometimes used. The first is called “super freezing”, in which the anus is exposed to extreme cold, shrinking the hemorrhoid and eventually “killing” it.
And the second method is placing a tight rubber band at the base of the hemorrhoid, strangling and “killing” the vein. This latter method is obviously painful. Other treatment options include warm bath, ice packs, suppositories, and seat cushions. Loose underwear is also recommended.
When using either cream or injection, check that these are made of natural products. It is the consensus of many professionals treating hemorrhoids that natural products offer relief and permanent cure.
