Hemorrhoids - Laughing Matter?

Hemorrhoids may always be a laughing matter to some people. But to people who has and have experienced hemorrhoids, I bet that they found out that hemorrhoids are no laughing matter. I bet that they even consider it a pain in the ass now.

But what exactly are hemorrhoids?

When I first heard of the word hemorrhoid, I thought it was an android experiencing gender issues. (Homo-droid). In fact, I was close to being correct. As one definition of hemorrhoid is actually- “a male from outer space”, “what you offer to a hitchhiker” .

I became more curious with what hemorrhoids were because of the jokes that people make out of this word. Here’s one that I find funny. “Why is it called an asteroid when it’s outside our hemisphere, but a hemorrhoid when it’s inside our ass?”

So what exactly are hemorrhoids? And why only few middle-aged people still find it funny?

In medical terms hemorrhoids are when veins around the anus and lower rectum become inflamed and swollen. In layman’s terms, it’s a bloated ass. Hemorrhoids may either be internal or external hemorrhoids. The most common symptoms of internal hemorrhoids are when your stool has been covered by blood. While external hemorrhoid’s symptoms is when a person experiences painful swelling or a hard lump around the anus. This results when a blood clot forms.

Straining stool movement causes hemorrhoids. Other factors such as pregnancy, aging, chronic constipation, diarrhea and anal intercourse may also cause hemorrhoids.

Laugh now at hemorrhoids while you are still young, because according to statistics, half of the population at age 50 eventually develops hemorrhoids. At least guys don’t have to worry about pregnancy, which due to the pressure of the fetus in the abdomen, as well as hormonal changes, cause the hemorrhoid vessels to enlarge.

The worst part of having hemorrhoids may not be the hemorrhoids itself. It may be the part when one goes to a doctor to have it diagnosed. The diagnostic procedure will be an examination of the anus and rectum to look for swollen blood vessels that indicate hemorrhoids and will also perform a digital rectal exam with a gloved, lubricated finger to feel for abnormalities. Other flexible lighted tubes may also be inserted to further diagnose the patient.

If you’re a person who does not take fancy to this kind of things, take better care of your anus. It may be better to know someone who is a pain in the ass rather than have a pain in your own ass literally.
